Welcome to my website and thank you for taking the time to find out more about what a Police and Crime Commissioner does and what I would like to do.
It has been a privilege to represent you over the last 4 years and I hope you will re-elect me to continue this important work over the next 4 years.
I will continue to
- Protect residents and police from political interference
- Prevent crime so you can be safe and feel safe
- Listen and be your voice-working with the Chief Constable for better policing
- Champion Police Officers, PCSO's and Special Constables in your local neighbourhood
- Be a fierce advocate for victims and protect our most vulnerable
- Work with partners to make justice more accessible, faster and simpler
- Ensure your money is spent efficiently, effectively and wisely
If re-elected as your PCC, I will work closely with Andy Marsh, our Chief Constable whom I have appointed. Andy is an experienced Chief Constable who is already making a huge difference in improving your police service. We will prevent crime together.
The Constabulary have had to find savings of over £60million over the last 4 years and in this year's Government Spending Review we will have to find nearly another £20m over the next 4 years. Because of these cuts Avon & Somerset Police are a smaller workforce with 500 fewer officers. It would be my job to ensure they have the funding to work smarter with increased investment in technology so they have the right tools for the job. They will all have personal issued body worn videos which will bring a transparency to the way the policing work with communities. We will find savings and improve service by collaborating with our partners from fire, local forces and local authorities.
Supporting victims will continue to be key. We need to look at the whole of the Criminal Justice system so that victims are able to play a part and get their voices heard so they can get justice. Protecting our most vulnerable - with a smaller workforce this becomes even more important when other agencies are having to reduce their services. We need to challenge Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation. We secured additional money from the Home Office, which was match funded from Wiltshire's PCC and my office, plus local authorities to work with Barnardo's to reduce the risks for our young people. More than 160 very vulnerable children have been supported in its first year. We must increase our early intervention work as these crimes have increased by over 200%.We need to do more to safeguard our children from these vile crimes.
You know you can depend upon me to get the job done!
I need your support on May 5th.
